Robert Person’s “Soul Sanctuary”: A Classic Gospel CD
Robert E. Person, native of Washington DC, released his third CD, “Soul Sanctuary”, July 12th, 2011. Person recently gave a performance at the dedication ceremony of the Martin Luther King where he performed “Someday We’ll All Be Free”.
Robert Person has a classic voice that is well suited for the gospel jazz and soothing sounds he puts forth on this CD. If you enjoy smooth jazz coupled with gospel without a lot of heavy urban beats, this CD is for you.
Person is at his apex when his voice is paired with classic jazz tracks such as “I Call On You” and ”Great Is Thy Faithfulness”. The latter is a classic jazz rendition of the song in 3/4 time signature. The track has a holiday quality to it. The piano solo is beautiful and he sings it beautifully. It has a soothing quality to it.
Person’s rendition of Donnie Hathaway’s “Someday We’ll All Be Free” is an easy listening lovers dream.
“You” is another classic piano tune with gorgeous instrumentation reminds the listener that God is everywhere no matter the situation. The light calypso sounding tune, ”Perfect Peace” with sweet vocals that is perfect for a summer beach banquet.
The vocalese ”Soul Sanctuary” immediately threw me into a time warp. It’s absolutely wonderful and soothing.
The epic gospel ballad, ”The Glory You’re Due”, is captivating and well phrased. A remake of a hymn by Charles Tinley, penned during the late 19th /early 20th century, “Beams of Heaven” is also a gem on this CD.
The uptempo track, “Stand By Me”, is where we experience Person modulating effortlessly in the vamp. He has a strong tenor voice and the chorus is every catchy. You’ll find yourself singing it before you know it. Person’s “Gotta Praise” has an easy chorus and can be picked up by praise teams everywhere.
This is definitely a CD for the mature listener that can appreciate smooth music.
