Y’anna Crawley talks about winning New Artist of the Year at the 27th Annual Stellar Awards and more!
Y’Anna Crawley, winner of Season 2 of BET’s Sunday Best and powerful songstress, took home the Stellar Award for New Artist of the Year for her CD “The Promise”. She was really emotional during her acceptance speech. You can find out why because Tekoa Gospel Music News was there to catch her responses in the press room.
Y’Anna: “Ah.. I thought about my babies. I thought about my journey and I thought about what God always speaks to me. He said he would perfect the very thing that concerns me. A lot of people think that because you won a reality show, it’s all peachy and cream, but it’s not. You still have hard work and you still have obstacles and trials that you have to go through. At the point I wanted to give up, I didn’t because I remembered God’s word and God’s promise to me that no man can close the door that He opened”.
TGMN: You’ve lost weight right? What did you do?
Y’Anna: I started in January. I started eating healthier. I don’t deprive myself, but I became a Zumba instructor because I love to dance and a lot of people don’t know that. So I looked at it and was like okay I can do this, so I became a Zumba instructor in July. I host Zumba parties back at home.
Y’Anna stated that we can expect a new album in 2012 and the launch of her foundation, The Promise Foundation. The foundation will be geared towards young ladies from 18-35.
Y’Anna: I was a teenage mom. I had my first son when I was 17 and a lot of people wrote me off. I just want to encourage my community. I’m from D.C., Washington D.C. Southeast where a lot of people say nobody’s going to make it , but I thank God that I did and I just want to give back to my community… especially my young women because they think that they have to get naked to get noticed, but I have to let them know that you can do it without getting naked and just pushing forward. I want to give back to them by giving them scholarships, health and wellness because I’m on this track now and just helping them “
