Kierra Sheard Receives Two 2013 Stellar Gospel Music Award Nominations
Multiple Stellar Award-winning recording artist, songwriter and producer, Kierra Sheard receives two 2013 Stellar Gospel Music Award nominations for her current CD project, Free. She is nominated in the Albertina Walker Female Vocalist of the Year and the Contemporary Vocalist of the Year categories. Free debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Top Gospel Albums chart and was produced by her brother, J. Drew Sheard II (JDS).
I am elated and humbly honored to receive two Stellar Award nominations,” says Kierra. “I am thankful to all who thought of me and voted for me. To God be the glory. I will continue building the Kingdom through my music and my life.”
Free is Kierra’s fourth album and is released on her family’s label, Karew Records (pronounced: Kuh-rue), which is distributed by EMI Gospel. The groundbreaking album features the radio chart-topping singles “Mighty,” “You Are,” and “Indescribable.” Free was recorded live in Chicago and is an exploration of musical sounds and styles that creatively express the heart and soul of the next generation of the Clark Family gospel music dynasty.
A graduate of Wayne State University, Kierra is also the founder of the youth and young adult organization, Bold Right Life (BRL), which inspires young people to live for Christ and to care about their communities. Free features approximately 20 members of the group who form the BRL Choir. Kierra hosts an annual conference for BRL at Greater Emmanuel Institutional Church of God In Christ in Detroit, Michigan, where her father, Bishop J. Drew Sheard Sr., is the Senior Pastor. In addition to Michigan, the organization has chapters in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Illinois. Bold Right Life, which shares the name of Kierra’s third album, provides encouragement and opportunities for young people to do outreach and ministry at places such as group homes and juvenile centers, and often sponsors benefit concerts for people and organizations in need of support.
Kierra is currently in the studio recording material for a new CD, as she continues to tour at venues across the country, including engagements with her mother, Karen Clark Sheard, and her aunts, the legendary Clark Sisters.
Kierra and her royal family of gospel music are featured on the current issue of Gospel Today magazine.
